Engine sound

I have a 03 with 180k on it. I just resently noticed a "whisping" type sound when rpms go above 2k. Could it be a bad injector? I checked all the isolation bushings on the fuel rail and they are tight. Truck is stock, and I dont notice any smoke or lack of power. Not sure if this is something bad or not. Figured I would post up and see what the experts here have to say.

Do you have any gauges installed? Is so, which ones?
Could be a boost leak.

It could just be the turbo spooling up.

Sounds like a boost leak. Have you pulled your air filter and inspected it?

A boost gauge would really help.

It could be a lot of things. Inspect the intercooler boots and the air box, then get back to us.

It is a new air filter, checked it again and it looks good.

I wish I had a boost gauge.

Checked all the IC boots and couldnt find any cracks or loose clamps. Everything appeared to be normal.

I have driven many of these trucks with the 5.9 and havent heard this sound before. Almost like an exhaust leak... but only at 2k or higher rpm. I will keep looking and see if there is possibly and exhaust leak. :dunno:

I adjusted the valves today, not knowing if they had been done since I bought the truck used with 145k. After today, I believe they were done, since all the bolts to get the cover off were well over tightened. Anyway I found most were within spec, some were out far enough to need a very small adjustment. Took it for a ride home, and could immediately notice how much quieter it sounded. Also when I was revving above 2k no more ticking sound!
