Engine Refresh....
I was curious how do you tell by blowby how worn out the engine is?? mine is at 554k and still runs so strong.. i can roll into it and spin all 4 tires in the rear when it hits peak torque..
I been looking into it and know a little about engine rebuilds.. from petrol cars.. never tackled a diesel rebuild.. dont imagine it being to difficult.. but anyways i am more or less wanting to try and renew the engine so it doesn't smoke as much as it use to under acceleration.. but i am unsure if its actually wear and tare on the fuel system making the smoke under acceleration or if its just the blowby???
I contacted a few places on rebuild kits and came across this company that looks reasonable on the price of there kit.. it shouldnt be to difficult to install this kit without needing to take the entire engine out of the truck.. seems fairly simple.. pull the pan and pull the head.. disconnect the rods and pull the pistons out the top.. drop the new pistons and rings in.... and new bearings button her up and should be all she needs... unless there is something i am missing..

no on the the sleeves. and once the head is off you have to unbolt the motor mounts in order to jack the block up far enough to remove the oil pan. The last time I checked thru cummins a full rebuild kit is not available. usually it is cheaper and faster to buy a used motor than do a high mileage rebuild.
