Engine oil level

Mines nearly half inch high and I was just curious how everyone's checks after a change w/ filter and 3 gallons of new oil? And yes I let it drain for quite awhile. My truck is leveled, but that should not affect the dipstick reading that much I wouldn't think.

Filter and 3 gallons oil reads just a hair under the full mark. After the change I start it and let it run for about 2 min. or so (while checking for leaks) and then shut it off and wait another 2-3 min. before checking level.

If checked after sitting overnight they frequently check high, and if check immediatly after shutting off they check low. Manual says to let sit after shutting off for 10-20 minutes and then to check. Should be mid way on full mark on dipstick. My 07 has a new type of dipstick, kinda a flexable cable with a short reading end on it, a little harded to read I find, at least for me.

What Kinda Oil you use? Let me tell you a short story.
Hurricane Rita hit here in Buna,Texas. I went to Tyler,Texas. Bought Mobil Synthetic oil and brought my own filter went to Dodge dealership to have it changed while things down in Buna were coming back on line. They poured the 3 Containers in not paying attention they over filled it reason why it is
(5) Quarts not 1 gallon jugs. Thats why I asked what kinda oil you use.

I find that 3 gallons of Rotella 5w40 fills my engine to the full mark on the dipstick. Part of the 3 gallons is used to prefill the filter. You do need to let the engine sit for 15 minutes to get an accurate reading.
