Ok i did a search but most want to know if 1200 deg is to hot but my question is,
What your temps are at 60-65 mph without a load?
Here is my scenario: Truck in sig, mostly stock, muffler delete, SuperChip on Economy setting. Ambient temp is between 25-35 deg (a little cool) in the morning on a mostly flat highway. If you driven through El Paso then you know how flat it is. I get on the highway and get up to 62 MPH and hit the cruse and take my time. My AutoMeter Gauge reads 400 or less and i don't know if that is normal. BTW it was an amateur instal by me.
Thanks for your responses.

On an 04.5 1200 good under load. You can even run up to 1400 for a few minutes. I know the 05-07 5.9 were designed to handle 1450* for long periods.
400* cruising at 62 on flat ground is normal.

60-65, no load, level ground, two stack chips off and stock fuel/timing setting yields around 600-650 empty.
Keep in mind the location of your temp probe(s) will have a dramatic effect on what they read at any given speed, load or fuel flow. Here's where mine are located, right at the convergence of the front and rear cylinders.

I have an '03 with a K&N air filter, 4" pipes and an Edge with Attitude chip. Running on setting 1(stock), 2(tow), 3(drive where it mostly stays) I run 550-650 on flat and up and down good hills without a load. I spoke with a well recognized diesel performance shop and he said that I should keep it below 1300 regardless of what I'm doing but could go up to 1500 for a very short time. He said that at and/or above 1500 you start cooking the seals in your turbo. With the Edge and a 14K lb. Fiver, it doesn't take a lot of peddle before you're at 1300 so I watch that and back off. Had rather go a little slower than cook my turbo.
I have noticed during the winter it seems to run a little lower when it's cold. Around 480-500 when running level. I usually keep my foot in it though.
And yes, El Paso is flat and dusty.

600 to 650 here too, somethings not right there, IMO... My 92 12 valve had its probe installed after the turbo and it ran around 400, that was relocated into the exhaust manifold quick... My 600 to 650* temps is between Deming and Silver City, New Mexico, not far from El Paso and anyone who's been on HWY 180 knows there's not much differance (FLAT) boring drive...

Thanks Everyone
The temp gauge is located on the left of the exhaust manifold just like in thread #3 except I only have one.
I will look at it again to see if it has backed out a bit but I doubt it. If I do find out I screwed it up I will let you know what the fix is/was.
I did screw up. I have AutoMeter Gauges not IsoPro. Is AutoMeter worth a poop?

The one probe is for the gauge and the other is for the safety on my tuner boxes. I have a pillar mount 3 gauge setup with boost, fuel pressure, and pyro temp.
They are all ISSPRO gauges. We run Autometer in the race car, all good.
