Ease my mind :)
I'm sort of at a cross roads deciding on getting a CTD with the 6sp. As I understand it the HD option (nv 5600 ) is no longer available . That leaves the G56 manul trans .
Reading other posts here things like a "dual mass " fly wheel were mentioned and also that the trans uses ATF . Are these things that I should be concerned about as far as long term use and reliability ? Also ,while I'm in the question mode .... What exactly is FASS ?
I'll probably have a few more dumb questioins later ,as I'm not relly up on the CTD .
Thanks , John

I chickened out on the G56 I had on order and found one with a NV-5600. So far I haven't read about any problems with the G-56 other than some of them needing an extra quart of oil. They are still new so only time will tell. As for the FASS it's an after market fuel pump/system. I'm not sure how it works with the '05 since the factory pump is now in the tank instead of on the side of the engine.

There may still be some NV5600's around. I just bought one earlier this month. A friend of mine (big Dodge truck guy) is now working at his local dealer in CT. As of May 4th, this nv5600 ram was there:
2500 SLT Quad Cab 4x4
Two-Tone Deep Molten Red/Bright Silver Metallic
6-speed NV5600
4.10 Axle Ratio
LSD
Thunder Road Package
Let me know if you may be interested in it (if it's still there) or need any other info. You can always go to a dealer close to you and have them do a search as well.

FYI...Manual transmission have been using ATF for years. The ealiest one I've seen is the T-5 from early 80's mustangs. I wouldn't let that be a deterrent. Think about it: At lower temperatures, what's thicker ATF or 90wt oil? By lower temperatures, I mean <100F. Also, what is going to yield better mileage: 90wt or ATF? Does it mean that you have to change the ATF more frequently? What, every 30k-50k miles? 4-6qt of oil?
Bottom line: ATF in a manual (that's designed for ATF) easier shifting, less friction, better low temp performance.
My advice, don't fret over the ATF.
