Question DWR to SRW Conversion

Hello everybody. I have not posted on this site for sometime. I do read a lot of the threads though, and have gained alot of usefull knowledge. So thanks. I have an '03 QC, LB, 4x4, DRW and have recently started thinking about turning it into a SRW. I was wondering if anyone knows exactly what has to be done to make this happen. I am mainly wanting to do this because I want more aftermarket wheel and tire options, plus it cuts down on tire costs. Thanks for the help ahead of time.

seems like all you need is a junkyard rear end.
then just take off the dually flares.
you may have to mess with the drive line but I doubt it.
sounds pretty easy

If you take off teh DRW fender flares, the sheetmetal is different. So, a bed would be needed as well, or have a bodyshop repair.modify the DRW bed for a SRW, as it IS different underneath the flares. My truck was damaged and a fender flare on my bed had to be replaced, and when they pulled it off, there are holes and such that would need to be taken care of.

Thanks for the replies. I figured I would need a new bed, but my biggest concern is axle width. I don't know if I would have to swap in some SRW axles or modify the factory ones. If I have to put in different axles I'd probably forget about doing the conversion.

The DRW rear axle is wider than the SRW. I think the front is the same once the DRW spacers are removed. I have also read that SRW beds are typically pricey, where DRW are "a dime a dozen" because there are quite a few DRW owners that do flat bed conversions, utility boxes, etc.

I agree with what nascar camper said. There might be someone on here willing to swap. I am waiting for someone that wants to convert their DRW Megacab to an SRW...anyone?

SSminnow how would the body shop repair the different sheet metal. Would they have to add metal and bondo. I have never seen the dually off. I definately would have a body shop fix it than change beds. Mods to the bed.

db bikeman I would trade you axles, hubs and wheels if I could get a good looking repair on my bed.

His DRW is an 8ft bed. I'm guessing he's not gonna want a 2ft gap between the bed and cab. Dodge has not made a 3rd Gen QC DRW with a shortbed.

You can do one of two things with a QC shortbed. Get Megacab DRW flares and axle spacers along with some DRW wheels, or get a custom bedside. I have seen those offered on a website, but I don't remember where.

Topics II, if you had an 8ft bed we might have been able to work something out. Thanks for the offer though.

I'm suprised more people haven't gotten into this thread. I think you need three things to make the conversion 100% right/perfect:

SRW Rear Axle
SRW Bed
SRW Wheels.

Post the color of your truck. You should also post the axle ratio and whether it has LSD since an axle swap is involved. There have been a few of these posts and almost everytime 2 guys end up doing a days worth of work to get the swap done.

We'll just keep bumping this to the top to see if anyone wants to convert their SRW to a DRW.

You might pm member Budsowner. https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...er.php?u=30905

He took his quad cab short bed 2500 and converted it to a dually. He may be able to offer some tips on what to do.

Here are some pics of his truck. https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...0&ppuser=30905

His truck started life looking like this...

And now looks like this..............

Hope that helps. Good luck with your project.
