Durability of stock injectors

I have an early '04 3500 with 93,000 miles on the clock. I have run a Banks 6 shooter in position 3 since the truck was new. The truck runs perfectly. How long can I expect these injectors to last? What are your experiences. My fuel consumption is between 19 and 21mpg empty.

Hard to tell. I assume your truck is in Germany and I'm thinking the fuel quality is much higher than it is here in the US which aids in the life of the injectors. In the US we are pretty much forced to use better than OEM filtration + additional lubrication for the early common rails to counter act the low quality swill called diesel fuel.

If your still running the stock fuel filter canister I would recommend using the Baldwin PF7977 drop in fuel filter. It's 2 micron nominal, 5 micron absolute if you can find Baldwin in Germany.

There is likely to be Mann branded filters there that are excellent-- but don't have a reference.

Let's start by acknowledging that the OEM injectors are not known for their long life.

Things that contribute to shortening the life are described a little by Mikey above (poor fuel quality) and also pressure boxes.

Your Banks six gun is a pressure box. That will contribute to the early demise of the injectors.

Do you have the speedloader option on it? That gives even more pressure over the range.

All that said, the Banks six gun is a relatively mild pressure box (especially if you never go over 3) without the speedloader when compared to a Dr.P or Diablo puck.

No one can really predict where you will start seeing injector failure. However I'd think based solely on the info you've provided that you should get to 150k miles without issue as long as your fuel has been of good quality and there is no mold in the system and etc.

115k mi on my 07 running a Bullydog on level 2 or 3 ( 3 is the highest) with Wix gold fuel filter changes every oil change.
No catastrophic failure just had 2 inj that wouldn't build enough pressure to pop when it was cold out.
Repalced them with Industrial 60hp sticks a year ago and 10k mi now. So far so good. Also added a 2mic filter before the IP at that time.

I was only able to get 94,000 miles out of the first set of injectors on my now sold 2006 Dodge CTD CR. I also had the extra Glacier Fuel Filter behind the stock unit and the injectors STILL went bad.

I agree with what DTR Member soulezoo has told you about the injectors on these 3rd Gen Dodge CTD CR Trucks. IMHO,...the pressure boxes definitely diminish the life of the injectors. I also have said here before that these Bosch CR Injectors in our 3rd Gen trucks are junk. They should last MUCH longer than they do.

Good luck with yours!
