I was thinking about doing the opposite, trading my 07 6sp for an auto.
Went to the dealer and talked to them. I'm gonna spend about 10k to gain a quad cab and an auto.
Good thing I still have the 12 valve, cause when I feel the need to drive an auto I jump in that and go.

Can't blame you for wanting to get rid of your auto tranny. That was one of the biggest issues I had when I bought my truck. I did not want to have another auto tranny for any reason. It can get truly expensive to repair them and the costs to billet them/bullet proof them is just about equal to fixing them. While I can see the advantage to having an auto in traffic, all in all having one and dealing with it to me was too great an issue.

Most all dealers stock the auto trannys about 5:1 vrs the standard trannys so finding a stick in my area was a pain. Everyone around here that tows heavy has a stick, the light to medium users have an auto. Also, many of the Women here that have trucks also have auto trannys.

I would have not bought a new truck when I did if the auto tranny was all I could have gotten. When the time comes to replace my 2006, if all they offer is the auto and they have done away with the standard tranny as is being speculated, I will not buy another truck from Dodge.

NO auto trannys again for me, I have had my fill of them over the years. My other vehicles - Jeep Wrangler and Miata are both standard trannys too.

Keep the auto...gets kinda irritating after a couple of years being so slow off the lights...

Ask any tranny shop. They will recommend the auto for towing. Spend the money to beef up the auto.

They sound pretty good, but only a one year warranty. I get 7 times that on my stocker.

That is because they get to rebuild them when they break. A manual is best for towing. I only have an auto because manuals in my area are very limited and I bought the truck used with 17,000 miles on it. It was just like I wanted except the darn tranny. Now the new 68rfe is awesome. 48re works good but is lacking in my book. Works O.K. for a grocery getter but if you load it up heavy it is not that good.
