I was something to do with the PCM learning my driving habits which included lots of traffic. I actually had to pull the TV cable adjustment as far back as I could just to make it tolerable. I should never have had to do that. The strange thing is that when Tim did the trans he also did my injectors. He had the truck for a week and he was driving the truck for that period. When I finally picked it up from him it was shifting perfectly. I was so happy I was calling my wife and friends and telling them the great news! Well, within a week it was back to where it was prior. Tim offered to do some VB adjustments but I knew it was something to do with the PCM so I never took him up on the offer. That was a great truck and the trans was the reason I don't have it now.
As for my current truck, it has been 100% trouble free except when I put mods on it. I love rowing through the gears and I will have a hard time getting rid of it just because my legs get tired. It has been the perfect truck. Unfortunately I sometimes dread leaving work to go sit in traffic and the traffic is not going away but instead it keeps getting worse and worse. I'd love to get a commuter vehicle but work has been slow and I just can't afford it. I am, however thinking about selling my trailer which would give me some nice scratch to pick up another car. If I don't have the trailer though, I really don't need the truck! I have a 5.0 Mustang in the garage but it's a 5 speed with a HD clutch too so that doesn't help me any either...
Yea , clutching in nova traffic is tough. Better buy the Ex. and save the Stang for sunny dayz !!!

Well, Motorhead, you aren't really Diesel-less, you are just without Diesel in your current location. I'm taking real good care of it for you... . And the Stang, it's nice and clean and under cover for the winter. I don't feel like cleaning it again so it will stay that way until the thermometer reaches 70 degrees.

I completly agree

Additionally, you are comparing mileage of a dually 3500 to a SRW 2500.

and a truck with 68K ( gitting 4-5 MPG better than it did new)and one with only 2K on it. If All else was the same other than that (engine, gears, trans) I would be suprised to see more than 1-2 MPG diff just becouse of 2 more springs, 2 tires, and some finders. If the 5.9 gets pulled down more than that with those diffs them some thing is wrong with it.

And you are comparing 2 different motors between the 5.9 and 6.7. With all the variables involved, you cannot draw a good conclusion that a 4 MPG difference is because of the new auto.
I did not mean for it to sound like I ment that it was only becouse of the new auto. Just giveing a comparison about how they drive/pull compared to a truck that he may be fomilure with. The 4MPG was just a nice + even though almost every one would have you think the 5.9 will get 10MPG more than the 6.7. I am not downing the 5.9 (I have 2 and work on lots of new ones) I was only giveing options and let hem know that he could get a auto in a new truck and be very happy (or at least I am) and that the manuals have there probs too. I agree that the stock auto behind the 5.9 is junk with out upgreads.

I the end its all up to him.

HOV, it sucks that you are having problems with your trans. You just never know with these autos and that's why I'm scared to get another one. Honestly the thought of getting anything but a CTD just makes me feel strange so I will probably end up getting another one. I'm even thinking about a Mega Laramie even though I swore I would not have another short bed again. I'm not even considering a smogger 6.7 though......

There are no problems with my transmission, I would just prefer the simplicity of the manual.

For me, it's never auto, never again. The auto in my Camry is just horrible.

Well, it's pretty much going to happen. This truck is great as long as you don't want to BOMB it. I'm sure you've read my recent threads.......

Man !!! if I only had your bling !! Seriously though. I can think of very few ( if any) Aluminum case light - medium duty transmissions designed to withstand 800 - 900 ftlbs of torque for any length of time. Stock, my 48RE ( or was it a 47???) in my 2001 was fine. Problem we seem to have is we are too cheap to buy a race car and want our tow trucks to do both !! Well , shredded parts are frequently the results buuuutt the aftermarket and SEMA LOVE us !. Answer ......Buy that 68' GTX or 69' Dart you always wanted and drop a 528 crate motor Hemi in it and use the truck ( stock ) to tow it to the drag strip . Lil' Mikey is gonna want that anyhow . Problem solved . Besides , when I get back for good, thats what we are gonna be doing anyhow , so better get started !

Hey! Don't I already own a 67 GTX?!?! Why should I buy another one?

I definitely hear you brotherman. Unfortunately I have to commute and right now this is all I have unless I make my wife drive it and I'll drive the van... I don't think she will like that idea though.....

I guess I should have factored my age, and the abuse I've put upon myself over the years, into the equation when I was deciding if I really wanted a 6-speed.......

For me it's the cost of diesel that forced me to pick up a commuter. I found no less than 30 (thirty) four door four bangers in the $2K range on Craigslist in the week I started looking. I ended up with a '91 Infiniti G20 with 90k miles for $1800 that consistently gets 25 mpg (300 miles on 12 gallons of 87 octane).

That's my other option. I could swing something like that. Just something to get me from point A to point B and back in the evenings...

If I ever loose my company truck that is exactly what I am going to do. Get a 1000-2000 dollar beater. An old Sentra with a 5 speed manual is what I was thinking of, then proceed to put the miles to it.
