Disable 4wd in 4 L range ?
Disable 4wd in 4 L range ?
I searched for 1/2 hour but could not find it. I know there's a way to add a switch to disable the front wheel engaging when shifting transfer case to 4L.
It's used to back up or move trailers. There were some posts a while ago but I cannot find anything.
Does anybody know anything about it ?

Here is the thread I made a while back... Not sure how it applies to you third gen folk though... All 3rd gens have AAM or was it a transition thing? No vac motor on the AAM IIRC

That's exactly what I was looking for Bnold, NOBAMA 08 !!!
Wait a minute, whoops I meant no 4wd when in 4 low, great writeup !!!
I think there's a way to shut off the motor on a 3rd gen.

Yea, like ramrodd said, no way to do it on a 3rd gen unless you buy a locking hub kit. They changed the axle mid way through the 02 production year if i remember correctly. So that means no go for any 3rd gen.

Yes I can get low range to high range without stopping. I usually go from 4th gear low to 2nd hi without stopping. What I find that works the best is push in the clutch put trans in Neutral(Hold in clutch) then pull the transfercase lever to Neutral give it a couple seconds then shift to Hi range then put the transmission in gear and let out the clutch. I do this all the time smooth as glass.
Thanks Ramrodd. I am curious to see if the manual hub option would help an automatic take off with a heavier load by starting out in 4L and then moving to 2H. Any idea how fast you are moving when you make the shift? 10mph or so?
The electronic shift transfer cases are a pain to shift while moving or even at a dead stop for that matter!! I guess I'm just not used to waiting for anything to do it on its own. GIVE ME A LEVER TO PULL!!!! Sitting in the road with a big load waiting for the transfer to shift is no fun when a semi is coming up fast!!
