I buy CI-4 at Wal Mart for $8 a gallon. Comes in a blue jug, and it's their house brand. My '05 calls for CI-4 and that's what I put in it. I also run LSD rather than ULSD whenever I can. I run a 100 gal auxiliary tank and fill it up every time I see LSD. Call me crazy, but I swear my truck runs better using this combo.

The SuperTech is probably 100% fine to use and in the end no differant than any other conventional ol on the shelf... I just have a hard time telling my self it is ok to put into a 40k truck. Even though it is rated accordingly.

As much as I am fond of sticking to dyno oil, I have been thinking about making the switch to synthetic. I am adding a bypass and that filter is not cheap! So if I want to get the benefit of the 2 mic, I might as well go for longer intervals. I havent quite talked myself into it yet, and I do stil have one more Delvac oil change sitting in my cabnets so I got a little time to thik it over.

I used Delo when I first got my truck, then switched to Valvoline PB the last couple years. The truck runs great, never had any problems.

I did try Rotella 5w-40 synthetic, and my truck liked to eat about a quart no matter every change. It ran fine, but I didn't notice any great improvements. If I put more miles on it, I would try Amsoil. As of now, I will stick to the Valvoline. It's easy to get, and my truck seems to like it.

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but the Vavleoline, Rotella, ect oils are not actually full synthetics right?

Edit: For those of you that run Amsoil, which oil is it that you use? I see they have a few different options. Keep in mind I am running a 5.9 not the 6.7

Correct, its my understanding that they use group III crude base stock and Amsoil uses group IV and V synthetic base stock.

Hi Bansh-eman,

I run Amsoil Synthetic HD Diesel & Marine 15/40 Motor Oil (AME) IN MY 03. I recommend this for your 06 if you are considering a change from the conventional Delvac 1300.

The 01.5 listed in my sig. runs Mobil Delvac 1 synthetic oil. I have been using it since the initial break in oil change.

Drizzle,

Thanks for the reply, Any specific reasons to run the Diesel & Marine 15/40 over the others?

The others are marketed toward the 2007 and newer heavy-duty and pickup truck diesel engines requiring the API CJ emissions rating. The AME was recommended by a friend and the AME carries the API CI-4+ rating. I have had stellar UOA results while using it.

I use Amsoil 5w30 HDD, yes it cost a bit more but I also like the 1.1 increase in mpg compared to 15w40 Delvac. I like that it has a -56 pour point for the cold -30 an -40 below zero winters here in IA, it also holds up very well on the 100+ degree days we get from time to time and I have never had a TBN lower then 9.5 after it being in the engine 368 days and 8K using a Fleetguard Stratapore oil filter.
