our '03 came with 225 hp 450 ft lb torque the 05 came with 325 hp and 610 torque. we put an edge chip and boost elbow on the '03 now they seem pretty close by the dyno installed in the driver seat...lol...the boost elbow restricts boost going to the wastegate so the boost will build more. the 04.5 engines have electronic wastegate so if you feel you need to, you can get a boost fooler( no experience with those). the main difference between the two engines is the programing of the computer.

'04.5 - has a catylitic converter, 4" exhaust, different valves (sodium filled? - don't know, but get rid of heat better), electronic wastegate
'04 and earlier - no kitty, 3.5 " exhaust, mech. wastegate

You forgot about the '03 HO which is 305/555

and you can alter the mechanical wastegate on teh 03/04's to allow more boost. With my TST I am now seeing 40-42lbs of boost with teh stock turbo

Computer, teh 03-04 have an engine computer and a tranny computer. The 04.5 and up only have 1 computer that controls both.

Injectors are different.

Downpipe, I THINK the down pipe and exhaust elbow changed on the 05 and up, MAYBE 04.5 and up, but I think it started with '05's. The '05 andup have a 4" exhaust elbow/downpipe, and exhaust is 4" all the way. The 03 and 04 have 4" AFTER teh muffler only.

can a dealer change the computer to a newer version with a download or do you just need to replace it. would you have to change the engine harness also?

Maybe you misunderstood me. The 03-04 like YOU have, have seperate computers for tranny and engine. Which also means TWO different harness's. So, in order to change to a "newer" computer, you will need to delete your tranny computer and wiring harness, AND change teh engine wiring harness and swap to a "newer" computer

Now, why would you want to go through the trouble of all that?

1. i would say it would net me about an extra 100 hp
additional 50 stock, about another 40 or more through smarty
2. i'm pretty sure that having a six speed it only has 1 computer.
3. knowing dodge it would be a plug and play thing
you unplug the computer controlled wastegate anyway right?
what else is there that is different?
4. if i "HAVE TO" change the harness i would feel very comfortable doing it.

that said does anybody here KNOW whether you would have to change the harness?

1)100 HP by changing your computer? Why not buy a programmer and be done with it.
2)I am real sure you have 2 (there are 2 different part numbers from Dodge)
3)Yes, it would be plug and play, IF you have the right harness, which you don't.
4) Yes, you "HAVE TO"

that being said, yes, you have to change the harness, I KNOW

Clear Lake Dodge, 281-481-9045, ask for the parts dept. For someone that is capable, you should be able to handle that right?

You ask for help, I give it to you, and you give me grief? You this nice all the time

mine is made in 03-04 it has a mech. wastegate and it's the 325hp HO (says on motor and I called a Cummins and gave them the serial # to confirm).

I thought 325HP didn't start till 04.5. And that would come with an elec. wastegate???

not sure what the prev. owner change as it' doesn't have a cat and it got 4 inch turbo back using a aftermarket muffler. hmmmm

The 03-04 HO is 305 hp, 555 tq. You apparently have a 600 and the cat "fell off"... I believe the 600 also had mechanical waste gate?
