differences between 600's and 610's.

my buddy just came over in his 05 and on his pastic valve cover thingy it states 325HP @2900 and my 04.5 states 305@2900. whats the differences? can a 600 be changed to a 610? just curious how they got the extra HP

Sounds like your's is 04 not 04.5. The 305/555 did not have a Catylictic Converter, does yours. Is the engine build date before January 2004??

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but....yours is not a '600'. It is in fact a 555. What is the build date of your truck? I am betting it was built before Jan./04? As far as I know all trucks built after Jan 04 have a 325hp/600ft/lbs motor.

If you bought from a dealer with the impression it was a 325/600 then I would suggest talking to them about this as yours is actually a 04 model not an 04.5

Again sorry for the bad news.

difference in what he has will end up netting him about 2 - 5 mpg better.... with the price at the pump creeping up again I'd take the 305 and smile. But liek said that makes yours an 04.

I agree that having the 305/555 instead of 325/600 is not necessarily bad, especially when it comes to fuel economy.

well then, what ARE the differences in the two motors? so is mine considered a common rail? now i'm really confused and heated...it was sold to me as having the 600 series and at the time i didnt know any better...guess i should change my sig huh. are the 555's less or more prone to any specific problems? easier or harder to bomb? guess i need to learn about a whole new motor now.

I bet that you wouldnt even notice the difference between the two. I would try to get some freebees from the dealership out of it.

I think that if you look at the Dyno Graphs and compare there is not much difference Expecially if you have an AUTO!
More Factory boost, more fuel, less restriction in exhaust/intake, different PCM/ECU programming---------there is not much difference in the trucks, and I bet that if you drove a 600-610 that you wouldnt be able to feel seat of the pants difference. I have drove every modle Dodge 2500 there has been and yes the 255tq/460tq BASE Common Rail in 03 feels weak compared to the new but not enough to really matter-----------+ you will be getting better mileage than the 610's and that is really worth more in todays everyday life than 610tq and 15mpg

i bought it a year ago as a barely used rig, supposedly from oregon which is why i belived it did not have a kitty. i was so desparate to ditch my silverado i just bought it and have loved owning it, just was under the impression i had the 600, guess all the more reason to buy the new bigboy cummins if it ever comes out. anyone have any ideas on talkin to the dealer? gee...id like to have the keyless entry, and tow hooks, and twin turbos, and FASS, and and and....i'm gettin al excited now.

I wouldn't complain if you have the 305/555 motor you will definitely get better fuel economy than the 325/600. I've gotten as good as 21 mpg if keep my foot out the fire wall.

There is a seat of the pants difference, and quite a bit of towing difference comparing a stock 555 to a stock 600.

The dyno shows a decent difference also.
