Diesel Kleen + cetane boost
Diesel Kleen + cetane boost
Has anybody used Diesel Kleen + cetane boost? As always, I am leary about putting anything in my fuel tank that I am not familiar with. I am more concerned with making sure that my injectors are properly lubricated while using ULSD, and this stuff claims to be good for that.
I have ran PS Diesel Kleen and MMO mix in every tank for the last 80,000 miles. It did seem to quite it down a little when I started. At this point I don't know if it helps or not, but it has not hurt anything. The couple of times I had to fill up with out my mix around I could swear the engine was a little noisier, but that is probably just mind over matter
. It is cheap insurance for a little extra lubrication and cleaning, especially with the ULSD diesel.

ethybenzene is probably the centane booster.
Never had a problem with it. I Dont run it in my '07 but everything else it has been ok ('02 P/Stroke, '94 IDI, '54 D4 Cat, '92 cummins, '98 cummins, etc) I dont use it every time though either.

thanks Mikey. i know that acetone, xylene, and petroleum naptha seem to be the most common solvents found in diesel additives, and somtimes it's hard to remember which products contain which solvents.
i know that some Stanadyne products are more than 50% solvent by weight.
I run the Power Service almost every tank full. 37K so far without any problems. Don't know if it's needed or not, the one issue of Diesel Power I read awhile back had a write up about, and that sold me at the time.
The more I learn though, I'm not so sure what to believe and not to believe about DP anymore.

additives that have high levels of solvents will initially seem to make your truck run better. the solvents will clean the injectors and increase fuel mileage, but over time they will strip the lubrication film between the injector needle and nozzle, sometimes causing injector failure due to needle scuffing and needle side loading.
the chance of additives causing injector damage has to do with how much solvent is in the product, how much you use, and how often. if an additive contains a lubricant (almost all do), what is the % of lubricant compared to solvent? over time, the higher % of solvent can cause injector damage by breaking down the lubrication film between the needle and the nozzle- something specifically noted in a Cummins bulletin, as a cause of CR injector failure.
