Did I really pay $42K for this?
Well, one more thing...if AAM would use a respectable joint they never would have had this problem, and the reason Chrysler won't replace it under warranty is because then they have to fill out loads of paperwork to send to AAM to get their money back for a warranty part. Most dealerships won't bother, because Chrysler hits them with even more paperwork.
It is dumb, but Toyota has had a fair number of similar problems, mostly because they used cheap (but Japanese) Koyo bearings, instead of the better Timken or NGK bearings most of their suppliers wanted. And remember Camshafts breaking?
Every company has downfalls. The Dodge trucks are no different, you wanted a miracle machine?!? GET IN LINE...but I warn you, don't hold your breath, lemons happen...even with Ferrari's.

Have you TRIED talking to Chrysler about it? Alot of people complain that their trucks are junk, but never seem to open their mouths about it. The dealer wont and cant do anything for you. Maybe if people started to stand up and voice their concerns, something MAY be done about it, not saying for sure, but it never hurts to try...
Mine was over 40 and its an SLT. The laramies (sp) we were looking at would have been almost 50 out the door.
I called AAM last year(on a differantial issue, told what it was doing was impossable) and after many tranfers to this person and that I got a guy whom told me I was nuts about a high failure rate on u/joints.Said they make the best in the business.Said he pulled a computer readout on warranty joints and it was a fraction of a percent.I told him he needed to read Dodge forums for a while to get a better picture. In essence he told me he didn't have the time for such.Wanna say they might have something to do with ball joints also but I might me wrong on that.I think if enough people called and complained to ANY party involved such as Chrysler and AAM sooner or later some one will listen in ernest.Does any one KNOW whom makes BALL JOINTS for Chrysler? Not to change the subject but I also called Bosche for their fuel filter required MICRON rating on CR system.I was told it was a GUARDED INFO.Now whom is protecting whom. What trash.(it was 5 mic)found out from Bosche R&D whom did not know it was not suppose to be disclosed) I'm sure the list of things like this go on and on.
Well mine has a stalling problem when the outside temperature gets below freezing. The dealer replaced the TIPM but that didn't do any good. They don't know what is worng with it. I have 44k miles on it which means electrical issues such as this are out of warranty. I've spent a little over $1,300 for parts, labor and rental car fees. It's going back in tomorrow so they can try a couple more ideas thrown at them by the mfr. Chrysler has been no help at all. It seems they aren't even a member of the Better Business Bureau as all the other car mfrs are. So I can't even get this arbitrated by the BBB. It's also past the Lemon Law eligibility in my state. I hear a lot of folks are having electrical ghosts/issues with the '06. I will more than likely trade mine in come spring. I'll give GMC/Chevy a try.
Sorry to be so glum, I'm going on 5 visits to the dealer and 15 days out of service and would be really happy if I had more recourse in this situation. My attorney tells me my only hope is to somehow catch the dealer in a lie and then they can go for the fraud angle.
I am the previous owner of a '04 with a Hemi and I also had a '97 Caravan that didn't have any major issues such as this '06 truck has.

I wouldn't jump ship over u-joints.
Chrysler doesn't care, my most recent dealings with their "corporate owner retention department" which translates to "3rd party arbitration company" went like this:
hello sir, I am calling about your truck, the Ram?
right, who do you work for and what are you calling to offer me?
I am with Impartial Services (or something) we work with Chrysler
again, what are you calling to offer me?
well sir, I am calling to follow up with your most recent service experience
have you not been given notification that I filed legal proceedings a month ago? My attorney, Mike Power has been in contact with Chrysler.
then sir, I am no longer allowed to assist you
as I am well aware, good day
(phone rings 2 minutes later)
sir who did you say your attorney is?
as I just said, MIKE POWER
and you retained him when?
as I just said, a month ago

you really do take a gamble when you buy any truck, I feel that owning a good 5.9 should offset minor problems like u-joints, I dealt with numerous minor problems with my '04. nothing is going to be perfect. 3rd gen CTDs have a pretty nice drivetrain compared to the new Tundra if that's what you had in mind. yes they're fast, but read about the engine/transmission/driveshaft and now 4wd issues.

I guess there really isnt a good automaker anymore...?

I was reading your post in another thread yesterday, thats pretty bad. Speaking of electrical issues...The 4wd light on my dash no longer comes on, every once in a blue moon when I put it in 4wd, it'll flickr. My overhead interior lights have a mind of their own, they come on and off as they please when the door is opened and my passenger side front speaker quit working out of the blue the other day. I guess quality is no longer a priority in the automaking business

Then again NOT to changethe subject but I bought a New Holland 4x4 tractor.Manual shift. The manual shift is really poor(not the low/med/high range)but the actual gear selector. At times you think its in a gear and its not etc.Can/could be dangerous.Think its in a gear let off clutch and roll back or forward before you catch its not all the way in gear. The New Holland REP called personaly to see how I like the product.Told him about the shift issue and that dealer said not a adjustment issue but how it was designed. After he asked a few more questions he said Well thank you for your time.He hung up.Week later I get a oil change coupon (Id never haul it back for that!) and a card attached for giving New Holland a 100 on their phony/phone survey.Rep was calling and checking off plus's the whole time.Never heard from anybody else every again.
I recently made a post about vibration/whirring noise coming from my driveline. Well, if you read that post, you saw that I took it to the dealer and they discovered a bad u-joint on the drivers side front axle. They charged me $390 and some change to fix it. The service mgr called me after it was done and said they replaced the joint, they took it for another test drive and he said that he swore he still heard the noise. He then proceeded to tell me that he thinks it may be a bad belt in one of my tires, but regardless, the u-joint was bad. The noise resembles nothing of a bad belt in a tire, it has more of a grinding noise than that, it sounds ax though your driving over a rumble strip on the hwy, only not quite as loud.
Anyways, I requested that he leave the bad parts in the truck so I can look at them. The u-joint was absolutely TOAST!! 2 of the 4 caps looks like they never had grease in them from the factory, as the needle bearings were gaulded/rusted to the inside of the cap. Mind you, there is only 40K on my truck and its NEVER seen anything but pavement since day one! Which brings me to my point...why are we paying Over $40K for these trucks when they start falling apart at 40K miles? And I know im not the only one...ive read numerous posts regarding ball joint replacements, wheel bearing replacements, etc. etc. The only thing I can rely on to get me down the road on this whole truck is the tried and true 5.9.
Some may think this is over the top, but when you spend good money on something, you expect quality, not junk. I will be writing a letter to Chrysler and attaching pictures of the failed part so they can see what kind of product they are putting on the market, call me crazy, but im ******!
In the meantime, I guess I'll have to diagnose my own problems, as the dealer obviously cannot.
end rant/

Question for ya!
did this happen at all speeds, I have noticed this in my truck between 65 and 70 MPH. Guess it's time to take it in (with only 7k on the truck)

My factory installed truck alarm will go off sometime for no reason while I'm driving it. And the horn chirped yesterday when I turned the key to start it. The ABS light came on for no reason once. The sound from the radio quit working one day until I turned it off and back on again. Remember the movie Christine? If not, rent it and enjoy.
You got that right. I'm thinking maybe my truck needs a good, old-fashioned excorcism

Alaska flyer:
It seems to do it at almost any speed, between 55-75 is when it is most noticable. Also, when im rolling to a stop, it actually vibrates the dash
I had a vibration in my truck. Sounded like the same thing...like a rumble strip between 40 and 50...most of the time while slowing down. I found a bad u joint and replaced it with no effect. I knew my tranny was on its way out, so I thought maybe a bearing or something was growling. Replace tranny...same thing. Switched out my Goodyear MTR summer tires for my winter Pro Comps and the vibe is gone.
