Do the cast aluminum pans not add some additional structure to the transmission case? I thought that was an added benifit along with the additional fluid capacity? I know those transmission cases have to flex some with the big HP numbers some make. Does the thicker cast pans help with that?

A case could be made the thick aluminum pans add a bit of structural strength. Not enough you are going to see any benefit though because other things get tore up a lot faster.

Just installed my Goerend tranny pan and it is worth it.... The next filter change will be so much easier. I have also noticed it knocked 10 deg off of cruising temps from the hot line.

I have a BD deep pan on my 03. I pull 22k behind it, trailer and backhoe cvgw. only stop and go through the town does it get over 190. in the summer when it hit upwards of 90+*, it got a little over 200, maybe 210. But, for the price, I have an 80 dollar trans cooler I got from O'reily auto, plumbed it on the front of the radiator on my 04.5, and I saw 40* + drop off of that trans. So, the pan does work, but for the price, I would spend the 80 bucks and put the extra cooler on if I had to do it again.

I agree with the idea that a deep pan will only marginally increase the time it takes your fluid to get to it's max temperature, it does nothing to increase cooling. Now if it had fins on the bottom that might help a little.....

The reason I got it was for the ease of changing the filter. Goerend is a quality piece and it does have small fins on the bottom. I have no cooling issues at all. My temps towing stay well within specs. No issues there.
