Dead Spot in Throttle
I have an '04 Cummins with a dead spot under light acceleration, mostly around 55-60. Before I narrowed it down to a certain speed range I thought it felt like bad fuel or maybe a little water in the fuel. But then I found a range that it happens and started think something terrible. Now I am reading that it could be the APPS (otherwise known as a Throttle Position Sensor). Has anyone had this issue and if so, 1 where did you buy it cause the dealer wants $500 for a whole darn assembly, and auto parts house wants $360 (my cost w/account). and 2: how hard was this darn thing to change. Thanks for your input and information.

Somewhere on this forum I think it was, there's a thread on cleaning the APPS unit. It takes a small drilled (carefully) on the backside where contact cleaner is sprayed inside and the unit rotated and 'used' and in many instances it fixes a lot of issues with the ECM/PCM readibng the throttle position voltage. try a search and see if you find something. I can't remember what it was under or I'd go look for you.

You can also try recalibrating it, by doing the following:
Turn the key to the on position, depress the accelerator pedal slowly to the floor, then slowly release. Turn key off, then start engine.
If that doesn't work, cleaning it might do it, but ultimately, it's needing replaced.

Mine quit (2 yrs ago) before 60k miles but I drive in the city a lot so it gets extra use/cycling. $169 delivered from TST products and it came with excellent directions. Easy job but follow the calibration directions, to the letter. A vice grip on the old screw heads was the easiest way to get them out. You need a good DCV meter for the cal. Mine fixed problems that I didn't even expect - better driveability and e-brake glitches. Craig

P2121
So today it finally bit the big one. Pulled out of the house headed to work, and just fell on its face. Popped a check engine light, pulled over checked the code, and it was a P2121. Sure enough the TPS Sensor has failed me. Found a Parts Store online that has the sensor alone, for $174 rather than replace the whole dern assembly for over $400 at the dealer. Thank you internet for saving my pocket book and my Edit. My wife was not happy at my Rig.
