Cracked Flex Plate?
So which "parts" - torque converter & flexplate. Do I do single disk or triple disk? How bonkers do I get with it? Remember, I am easy on my foot when starting out - I do not "drag or sled pull" with the truck. I do intend on pulling 15K lbs.
Tell Dave what you are using it for and follow his recommendations. I am guessing that with that trailer weight, he will suggest a triple. I am happy with my laminated flex plate from him. We tow a 14k gooseneck horse trailer with it. He may also suggest a valve body to increase line pressures and make sure your clutches survive the towing.
Originally i was going to simply replace the torque converter and flex plate but now I am looking at doing a re-freshening of the trans.
Reason why is a friend that works at ATD in WI, they rebuild tranny's & make their own torque converters, stated that he has not seen such a failure.
I do use the tow / haul to slow the vehicle & trailer down - is this bad for the tranny? What could have caused breaking the welds on the torque converter? I recently installed a smarty jr and had it on #2 - maybe that was tooooo much for my stock set up?

Hello everyone - The tranny is out, YEAH. It took longer than I thought, I guess I am a little slow.
Here is the result - 4 out of the 6 welded nuts / squares on the torque converter that the flexplate bolts have been broken off. What is weird is that the the welds broke - typically this is NOT suppose to happen. The material that the weld comes in contact is suppose to yield. I can add some pictures if need be. Bottom line, what would cause the nuts on the torque converter to break? I am thinking about just replacing the torque converter, front seal, and new flexplate - likely parts from Dave at Goered. I put on 10K miles per year tops and I expect to own the truck for another 4 years.
