CP3 went out today

CP3 started leaking badly today. took it to the dealer and they said it needed to be replaced. I then asked them if they thought that was odd that I had 22,000 on the truck and loose a pump. They said it happens and they have seen a couple with less mileage go out. So I get a new pump Wednesday and hopefully this one will last longer then a year. This was all done under warranty thank god.

I paid $1020.00 plus tax from cummins but that was before their price increases.

How many miles on your 04 ? aren't they warranted for the 100,000 as part of the cummins warranty ?

Mods=no warranty.

They can be resealed easily. Unless the innerds are Edit then no need to rebuild if only leaking.

I modded my 01 but the 03 has all i have needed so far without any mods. Going west this spring thru the "big hills" towing a 46 ' gooseneck so will see if i need more then.
this one has the 6 shooter instead of the auto so that may take care of things for me.

I don't know if this has been completely determined with all certainty, but based on reading this board.......the problem is with fuel starvation and aggravated by cold weather. Apparently, in some cases, the stock lift pump doesn't supply the CP3 with enough fuel.

I'm working on figuring it out while my pump is apart,cold temps could very well have something to do with it,the pumps seals are made of viton so the research is on as to how the viton handles the cold,Starving the pump of fuel would definately cause problems but I don't think its the major problem of all the leaks,these pumps don't just get starved when it's cold out only and thats when these leaks are happening.It's either the cold temps doing something to the viton seals or fuel related.

For some reason that sounds strangely familiar?

Has anyone determined that a pressure style box causes this leaking issue to be more prevalent?
