cp3 noise??

Recently I have noticed a noise what sounds similar to a timing rattle, but it is not. It does not do it at idle. But as soon as I barely even touch the pedal the noise starts and then stops once I get to 1100 rpms. I have done some searching and there are some vague results. What is causing the noise? What can be done to fix it?

While your truck is idling, stop the radiator fan with your hand (slowly). I had the same symptoms and found out it was my fan clutch. It's been quiet since.

Hi all, I am a newbie and I have a similar question. I hear what appears to be a change in the cadence in the engine signature noise at 1750rpms while going thru the gears. The noise is best described as an diesel clatter when i press down on the throttle. Noise is not there above or below around 1750rpms. the motor purrs above and below that. But at the 1750 mark, i hear the diesel sound. iwould not worry about it if it sounded that way at all rpms! There is no noise at all when the motor is cold though or when gassed at idle to 2000rpm. Is this something to look into. here are the basic facts of the truck:

2007 3500 Mega Cab SLT trim G56 and 5.9CTD. 7000kms so far. Winter MPG is 11MPG on mostly short drives unladen.

I crawled underneath the truck and the noise sounded like it could be in the transmission, but I dunno what. With the hood open it sounds like it could be coming from around the stock fuel filter canister.

Truck runs fine no codes. The noise just sounds really embarrassing.

When you stop the fan did the noise stop right away?

Yes, as soon as the fan stopped, the noise stopped.

Problem solved!!!! I didn't think that the problem could have been related to the quad xzillaraider I had just recently installed. The instructions are somewhat questionable with the alternate directions about the new harness. Anyways I had the ect plug (new harness) plug into where a plug on the old harness went, giving me this terrible, terrible soud. Called quad today and they said that the some of the 03's have an oddball plug and to just leave the ect plug unplugged and just use the map and fuel sensor plugs so that is what I did and all is better now.
