Cp3

Hey there, been away from the forums for a few years and looking for some help. My 2005 ram is in the shop because the PCM had 4 wires corroded and left me stranded. For a few weeks before my power steering was leaking fluid and giving me the groans. I filled it, wiped it off, sprayed some simple green and hosed it off (gently). Later that day, 3am to be exact, I lost all power and had to get it towed to the dealer. They found the wire problem immediately. I then received a call stating that the CP3 might be bad and $1800 for a new one. Also the guy said that the CPS was filled with power steering fluid.

Anyways, I'm hoping the pump is still good, I have been running a GDP 2 micron filter for the last 50k miles ( truck has about 75k). I change the filters often. So my question is, Industrial Injection has a new 33% pump for 1500 after core. So it is cheaper and an upgrade right? What are my other options to keep it cheaper if it is indeed a pump failure as well? I only have a quadzilla chip that I use occasionally.

Thanks for any help and info!

I'm by no means an expert but these pumps are gear driven.....they either pump the pressured fuel or they don't. I guess that maybe the pistons inside could be wearing out but I still say it either builds pressure or it doesn't. If your truck would start and run before the electrical problem I'd say you're still good to go. I had to buy a reman CP3 from the dealership about 9 yrs ago for reasons that only infuriate me so I won't go into detail on that but I paid a grand and did the work myself.....took me about 4hrs.

Hope they treat you right.

for one thing the cp3 and the truck will run for ever on power steering fluid. you do not need a 33% pump. you will never use the full output of your stock pump. throw the quad chip in the trash and get a smarty jr. it will give you 45 extra hp with no additional fueling and another 60 hp with very little extra fueling. the cp3 is not bad. the mechanic is an idiot. take the truck to someone who can do a leak down test. throw the bhaf in the trash and go back stock with a psm kit.
