Could I have hurt my engine?
Could I have hurt my engine?
I was pulling my toyhauler that weights around 9,500 up a 6-7% grade and got side by side with a GMC duramax pulling a trailer around the same size as mine.I droped down into 5th and was side by side and got down to around 52 mph and he started to pull me so I hit 4th and held it at red line for maybe 5 minutes or so and pulled him on the hill.I dont have a exhaust temp gauge so I really dont know where I was there but I am bone stock except for a strait through muffler. It was pretty warm out. Will this sort of stuff hurt anything?
Thank for your thoughts here.

Thanks guys.Thats what I figured. I am getting a temp gauge soon and then the smarty jr. I know I should have just backed off but I figured this same engine towing a heavier load probably sees this sort of thing fairly often and besides I just could let that Duramax kick my ase.
Redline is fine for a good long time.
Heck, I've seen an ISX run over redline for over 1000hrs--under load.
Cummins is pretty thorough with testing.
We have as I speak to prototype trucks out there running new Class-8 engines in them. I hear they are going to load them up to max GVWR and run them WOT up and full brake down Baker Grade to see if anything breaks

When the Cummins ISB is used in a generator application, it runs wide open all the time. The one on the 3rd floor of the office will have a nice red glow to the exhaust side of the turbo all day in a power outage
