What is everyones opinion of the mag hytecs? are they worth the $$$

i would like to know with the mag hytec covers how long can i go between oil changes. and what would be the best oil to use in diffs. i do tow almost everyday.

i just installed pml's rear diff cover on my truck yesterday(too cold to do the front today!) nice quality-fit and finish. takes an extra 3/4 of a bottle of diff fluid.. my diff fluid had 50,000 miles on it. it was amsoil's severe gear lube-75w-90. when i drained it yesterday, i was absolutely surprised at the color,etc of the fluid!! it looked brand new!!!!!
i could not justify the cost of the mag-hytec covers. i got the pml for 169.00 with free shipping.

 

Where did you find your PML cover? I was looking at websites but wasn't sure about a source.

My Mag Hyteks are in, but not installed. I'm putting synthetic Super Tech75/140 in the rear and Synthetic Valvoline 75/90 in the front. The capacity is doubled from 4 to 8 in the rear and from 2 to 4 in the front. I figure 20k miles until the next change.

 

They are great, but cause a big headache when you go in for warranty work on your diff. My advice is to wait until your warranty is up...

I love mine.... Mrs Claus has ordered the matching front one and supposedly ordered the Jacobs E-Brake for the sled.

 

I know they are, but I tend to go on a referral than just picking up the Yellow Pages !!

 

I have them, front and back, very nice covers, good/perfect fit. I like the fact that they DO add more capacity and also add some cooling factor. I run Amsoil Severe Gear 75w140 in both ends as well. I have a set of the Fast Coolers to add to the tranny, finally got them, but after the diff/tranny/xfer case fluid change, so will add them next time.

I discussed the addition of the covers with my dealership, they alo intall them for cutomers and have NO problem with them. In fact, my delaership said they were just one of a few of the aftermarket stuff they would NOT hastle someone about.

I have a PML on the front and a MagHytec on the rear. They are both nice, but the MagHytec is a work of art. They are all over priced, but the MagHytec really is made well.

 

I have front and rear Magtec diff covers. First off, if you installing these make sure not to overtighten the bolts. Get/borrow a torque wrench and follow the instructions. It seems to be a ridiculously low torque number, but I don't have any leaks and have heard from more than one about snapping bolts off.

As for the front, I have a slight clearance problem with the lift. I have a 4.5 inch lift, and on full tire deflection when I hit a bump the front Mag Hytec is hitting. Seems there was a long discussion that you need to make sure that you have the newest Mag Hytec front because the design changed, and once I checked (mine is one of the newer designs), they will still contact with a lift. Fit and finish of the diff covers was outstanding, I do believe they are a little pricey. They do increase the amount of fluid and most importantly look good....

 

I had the PML's on my 96 Dodge and put them on my ''new to me' 05. Very good quality. The drain plug on the bottom makes it very easy to change. There is a little magnet on the drain plug. You can't go wrong with PML.

 

I have magtech on rear diff excellent quality. Didn't do trans. on 2005 because capacity didn't seem to be increased. I didn't do front 4x4 because it is not used regularly.
