Conoco/Phillips Motor Oil?

With CI-4 oils becoming harder to find, I recently contacted the oil distributers in my area to see if they are still stocking any. One distributer I contacted has an over surplus of Conoco/Phillips 15W-40 with the CI-4 Plus rating in 1-gallon jugs. The cost for it is $31.00 per case (4) 1-gallon jugs. I have researched the oil online and have yet been able to find much information out about it. Have any of you guys ran this oil? With the price of it, I am considering purchasing a few cases but I would like to find out more info. on it first. I found a second distributer that still stocks Shell Rotella T 15W-40 CI-4 Plus in 5-gallon pails, the cost is $60 per pail. I have considered purchasing some of this as well, but my only concern would be the shelf life. I understand if the containers remained sealed, it should keep for a long time, but by breaking the seal and installing a tap, I'm afraid it would lose some of it's additives before I could finish it off. Anyone know what the average shelf life of oil is? Perhaps I am just too paranoid about the new CJ-4 oils and should bite the bullet and start using them.

I used to use Phillips Super HD 15w40 in my OTR diesels and it was real good stuff. Phillips had more multi-vis additive patents than anyone else in the world, at that time. I don't know what they have done with their oils since the Conoco merger. Craig
