Now for the bad news. My truck, in the last three tankfulls has lost 2+ mpg. I cannot figure it out but from when I bought it to about 9K I got 18.5 to 20-w-the EZ edge and VA. Now I am getting 16.5. can anyone tell me what to look for? It is making me nuts. I even had removed all the goodies for a little while when I brought it to the dealer and the mileage was OK. The dealer did not flash the ECM as he did the tranny line TSB but he did clear some codes and turn on the daytime running lights. He is a great guy and even said to me he was not going to flash the ecm cause of mileage concerns/problems. When I got it back I couldn't stand the lack of power and after 1/2 a tank put just the VA on running on #1 and I'm down 2 mpg. I cleaned the PG-7 (still brings the flow indicator down )and this did not help. Are others getting worse mileage as the truck "ages"? I'm ****** off about it. 2 wheel drive empty and a light foot. Can increased outside air temp do this? It has gotten quite hot around here lately????
Send me money for fuel please and I promise I won't rant.

Believe it. Mine is at 15k and I'm averaging about 15 now. My 99 got about 19 in the same area.

Yes cooler air makes for more efficient combustion AND running your A/C will suck extra fuel too.

Jimbarbq, supposedly there are boxes in the works, and I read another thread about some [EDM?] injectors that might help, but in the meantime this thread might be of interest to you...

As a test how about trying the stock filter? My paper stocker won't pull down the indicator. I have read where the oiled elements restrict too much when oiled well enough to filter good.

I get 19.5 mountain driving 40-60 mph.

Well I want to put my 2 cents in! My rig got 19 out of the box, then went to 20 then I put a cold air pack and it went to 22, then put a 4 inch s/s exhaust manaflow with a TAG to quite the turbo whine down and now I'm getting 23 pn the road at 70 and the air on, boy I love it! hpoe to put the box on it soon. My 2 cents

yes I am getting worse milage as the truck ages... when I drove it off the dealers lot it was getting around 20 or so on the highway and around 17 in town. then something poped and everything dropped aroung 2 mpg to around 18 hwy and 15 in town. (I am not the only driver of the truck)
I threw the camper on the back and started off around 12 and now has come up some.

The truck is bare bones stock......

My trucks milage is going down slowly aswell. I do not know what to figure about it. I put a cold air Kit on the truck and it has gone up a little bit but, traveling at 70 mph i was getting 15.3 miles overhead and 15.4 hand calc. on the way home I dogged on the truck and the milage hovered in the same area.

climing a hill the truck gets 12-13 mpg, the same as in town, if i spend alot of time in city driving conditions the milage wont go higher than 13 period.

400 miles a tank is getting really old on a truck that is totally stock other than the muffler and the cold air kit.

The guy that posted about the CAM timing could be onto something. I know on my car I got better MPG by advancing the timing by 9 degrees.

As for my truck the average is 12.5 MPG. Then again I did'nt buy it for fuel economy.

I know in the 80's Ford changed cam timing on the gas 460 to meet emissions and if you installed a timing chain set from an earlier 460 you got a power & mileage boost. Maybe the new 600's do have retarded timing??
