Cold weather engine oil?

What's the best engine oil for cold weather and how often should I change it? Do you know any good fuel/oil additives out there? Also your opinion on air/oil filters, is K&N good brand? Much appreciated. 2006 5.9L 2500 4X4

i run Mobile 1300 15w40 year round. I would only use fleetguard or wix(Napa gold) oil filters and afe air filters. not a big k&n fan they tend to let alot of dirt pass

I run 15/40 and live in one of the coldest places on earth, look at my sig. and change it around every 150 hrs because of the idling. I use Howes Meaner Cleaner in summer an Howes Elixer in winter...I buy Napa gold but want to see the new mopar filter.

I run 0W40 with a 250 watt oil pan heater and the regular block heater. It will take my coolant and oil temperature from -30 to 80 degrees in about 4 hours.

I also run 4Plus Arctic with BioArmor. Its a locally made additive that has worked well for me

I am not as quite as cold of country as klx but I run 0w40 with a 100watt stick on pan heater. Instant oil pressure. Run fleetguard filters a LF3894. I change oil every 6,000 miles. Don't use K&N in any dusty conditions. Paper, AMsoil, or Proguard 7. Take a light up to a K&N and you can see right through.

Rotella Synthetic 5W-40 was one of the highest rated oils in a blind test on TDR.

As for air filters, I run stock but will be switching to Cummins AF26106 at next change.

Cummins won't void your warranty for dusting with a Cummins filter.

I use Esso 0-40 full synthetic all year round. I run 200 hrs to the oil change and I have an Amsoil bypass filter system. I do not have a oil pan heater but at -30F with the block heater plugged in my oil pressure is almost instant on starting. I have towed my Citation trailer (10,000 lbs) across the Mahove Dessert in 110F with this same oil. I use oil analysis and have never had bad readings and according to them I am changing oil earlier than required.

5-40 Rotella synthetic make a very noticable difference compared to 15-40 in sub-freezing weather. Turns over quicker and alot quieter. I did not believe it until I tried it and you will pick up a little MPG. $19/gallon at Walmart.

The Delo was a good oil.... The Delo LE sucks....

Valvoline Blue is rated at the top.....

COOP Synthetic 0W40 right from the refinery in my home town...Regina.
Might add a pan heater, just running the block heater for now. Had the pan heater on several of the previous trucks. Last time I checked, the COOP synthetics rated Superior to most if not all the others...that surprised me.

10-30 for winter? Where do you winter, Mexico? (I would have said Texas or Florida, but those boys are getting some COLD weather lately )I mean some of the southern guys don't need the thin oil.

We're getting down to -10F today. If you're leaving a truck in that temperature it would help the engine to have a thinner oil in it.

If cold to you is 30 degrees, 10w oil is probably just fine. Does Dodge have a chart in the owner's manual? I think they do.

I run Amsoil HD Diesel and Marine 15w40 year round. We get to the 80's in the summer and down into the high teens in the winter, and it hasn't posed a problem.

To the OP. You live in South Carolina. Dump 15W40 in it and call it good. We get pretty cold up here in the mtns sometimes and if the truck's outside overnight, even at -10deg, if it's plugged in, the grid heater doesn't even come on before starting. Starts like you just shut it off. Makes a little heat out of the heater in under 5min of driving. COmpared to not plugged in = colder start (but not too much rattle) and 10mi of driving to get some heat.
