Cold Weather Affects transmission?

2005 5.9 stock - temp hit -27 today, and it was tough to start. Let it warm up, and initially was normal. Then noticed it stopped shifting into first, unless it was **** near stopped and even then it was a noticeable thump into first. Just had the computer etc. replaced less than 750 miles ago . . . would cold weather cause that?

Thanks folks.

Did you mean -27, as in MINUS 27? And is that Fahrenheit or are you on some other type scale?
-27F is cold. We'll be at -2 tomorrow the nice weatherman says, with wind chills running between are-you-kidding-me and holy-cr@p-it's-cold!!!

Cold has never affected my trans shifts.

Hi - and we're minus 31 Celsius today, with a windchill of minus 44. At minus 40, Celsius and Fahrenheit come together - regardless, it's effin' cold! Trans won't downshift into first unless I do it manually at less than 3 mph . . . and I just spent 1k on it!

-31C is just about -24F. We're at a balmy -2F or -19C today. Wind chills are going to be between -30 to -40 tomorrow. I'm thinking of bring my truck inside or plugging it in.

Have you checked the basics? Fluid level?

If it just started doing this when the temps dropped then, yes the temps are likely affecting it.

As long as it drops into first at a complete stop or when you give it a fair amount of throttle at low speeds its probably fine.
