Clutch Slippage

So... My clutch started slipping on my 2007 at 56,000 miles (the programmer probably didn't help ) It's a 6 speed tranny

I was looking at 2 different clutches... The southbend, or the centerforce

Any pro's/cons between one or the other

And if anyone can recommend a good tranny guy in the DFW/North Texas area, that would help tremendously

Thanks

I don't know anyone with a centerforce, not saying it's not quality piece. The toss up is usually between Haisley and SBC.

Southbend on the other hand, DOZENS of us have them, I can count on one hand how many negative comments I've heard. I told the last guy that was here with an issue to call them direct, he reported back within a day or so that they had assured him he would be taken care of. In short, the one main PRO of Southbend is support, they are a top notch outfit, not going anywhere anytime soon.

There are lots of choices, what you plan on doing with the truck will determine the best fit for you.

You can call Lary at the DTR store tomorrow morning, he can give you some pricing and general information on the clutches.

Expect to pay around $400 in labor for the install, may vary depending on your region.

Good Luck

Southbend, Peter is an advertiser here on the forums and can be a big help at any time. He also stands behind his products and so do most of us.

You'll hear nothing but good things on here about South Bend.
I just bought their OFE which they rate at 450 HP but many people on here are running with over 550 and are not having any problems, a great clutch by all reports.
Next they have an FE which is rated at 550 but good for way more. Not a great clutch for easing off the line or backing a trailer ets, a little grabby for that.

Then you get into the dual disk clutches, hold tons of power, not grabby but more pricey. They have the 3250 DD on sale through this site right now too. They also make stronger DD's for the serious guys, again hold tons-o-power but starting to get up there $$$

You should also upgrade the hydraulics whle you're at it, add another $300 or so.

Hope to install my OFE this weekend.

BTW, fill in your signature so we know more about you're truck...

I'm with then other fellas on this one. Been happy with SBC. Peter was great to work with. I have not heard anything about centerforce, so hard to make the comparison.... $400 should be the normal for the clutch swap, Alaska it was more. And they will most likely charge more for the upgraded hydraulics change as well.

I also have a SBC DD and have never had any trouble with it. Peter is a great guy, I have never had any problem with mine but I know that he stands behind his products.

Thanks for the input! I'll give SBC a call tomorrow to figure out which one I need.

I'm not looking to do anything too crazy. I've got a bully dog "triple dog" programmer, and it has started slipping in the performance mode. I've never been able to run it in extreme.

I'd like to add a 5" exhaust and already have a S&B air intake.

I shouldn't need to agressive of a clutch. Especially pulling loads of over 15k lbs easily.

I'm surprised it was slipping in 'performance', mine was fine till CL.
Sounds like you're in the same moda as me, I think you'd be fine with an OFE...

I am in a similar boat, ran the Diablo Predator for a while, clutch held, but now with the Smarty it seems to have had just about enough of all that...

So from what I am reading, the DD clutches hill hold more power (obviously), and they are less grabby than the FE? How about versus the OFE?
Interesting reading this is, I really haven't taken the time to research clutches yet...

I don't know any tranny places in ft.worth or dfw, but if you feel like driving to weatherford, theres texas diesel power, and phoenix transmission, and they can hook you up on puttin it in. I think john at tdp quoted me around 350 to install a clutch

A clutch is a clutch. I've never done a diesel before either but what's the diff?
