Christmas Morning Saga

I got up Christmas morning to go to the ex's house to see the kids. Went to start the truck and heard an weird noise from under the hood. Shut it off and checked. Took a minute to see that my fan belt had broken. Luckily a few months ago I bought a new Goodyear Gatorback belt but hadn't put it on yet. It was still under the back seat. Unfortunately, back when I had my accident (there is a thread on here somewhere about an unfortunate Lance Corporal that ran a stop sign and totaled his Toyota Corolla on my left front tire on Camp Pendleton) and when they did the repairs the sticker that shows the belt routing is no longer there. I'm in the process of moving so my computer is at my new place in Orange County and I was at my old house so I couldn't look up the routing with my service manual (and I had my external hard drive with me that has a copy of my manual). Called the ex to tell her that I would be a little late. It's no fun changing the belt when it's 40º and raining. But I got it figured out and changed in around 45 minutes. It's a lot easier to change with two people but I had to do it by myself. Put a cheater on the socket wrench (an old piece of PVC pipe that I found laying around) to be able to pull the tension pulley with one hand and left the belt off the A/C compressor. So I was able to pull the tension pulley and get the belt around the compressor pulley at the same time. Quite impressed with myself. Hardest part was figuring out the routing. And I was only 45 minutes late to the kids house.

the good thing is you got there to spend some time with your kids, you might want to double check your routing today if it is any nicer out, make sure you don't have it " one rib over " and cause it to shred. I watched a guy last year at the track trying for hours to re route his, problem was he had dual pumps and no pictures of the instal anywhere, and he had it installed for him so he was clueless.

Sorry to Hijack your thread, but I just had a chuckle to myself looking outside at a bounty of snow thinking about the "No fun in 40 degrees"

It's been down to -40 here, in which case I think your PVC "cheater pipe" would have been plastic shrapnel.

Glad you got it fixed!

Hope you didn't miss too much of the Christmas Joy.
