Driving tonight in 32*F temp w/snow blowing, & the MIL light (check engine light) came on and stayed on. I stopped, shut the truck off, checked for codes (showed none), and restarted the engine. The light continued to stay on. I continued down the road, and the engine progressively lost power, to the point that I began to think I would be walking home. Any ideas on this problem? Will a plugged fuel filter cause the check engine light to come on?

 

If it was snowing - I would guess - plugged air filter.
My stock filter plugged while driving in a snow storm - major power loss - pyro temps thru the roof.

 

First rule of a diesel vehicle with a problem... CHANGE FILTERS.

Second and third rule... CHANGE FILTERS.


Just a guess, but gelled fuel can cause the problem. Obviously a plugged air cleaner will too. I'd be most likely to suspect lack of fuel due to gelling or a plugged filter. Did you happen to check for excess water?
