check engine light is on
I have an 03 ctd ho 24v 3500 crew cab drw. I just changed the oil and oil filter and now my check engine light is on is this normal? It wasnt on before i changed the oil. I called the dodge dealer and they said i used the right oil and they told me to bring it in but id like to get some advice on what the prob might be before i go spending all the money that they will charge me to look at it. Any help will be great.
Turn the key on and off three or four times until the trouble code displays in the odometer section of the dash(leave the key on when it changes to the DTC in order to get all DTC's). It should be P---- (dashes being a numerical value).
Once you get the number post back to find out what it is or search for a list of DTC definitions.
As long as you filled it with the proper oil (CI-4 or CI-4+ rated) and used the right amount (roughly 12L) and don't have a severe leak (Large puddle on the ground) then it likely isn't related to your oil change. The only caution I would use is to ensure you used only a MOPAR or Fleetguard filter of the right type for your truck.
