Charging Problems

Ok, i went through all of the old threads and now i'm here.

I was having a no charge situation periodically and now it is constant. I have checked all wiring, fuses etc. I have also taken the alternator in and it is fine. So everyone says it's the ecm

Well i'm cheap, so i bypassed teh ecm with a external voltage regulator. Well it did ok for a little while. However now when i start my truck everything is ok until the voltage gets up to around 14.6-14.7 were it stays and then the volt meter bottoms out, check guages light comes on, and the truck at this point is idleing a little rough. At higher rpm the truck runs out great, holds a good charge. However, still no voltage on the guage. I unplug the voltage regulator restart and everything is ok except no charge.

Any ideas?

Or is it just time to break down and buy a new ecm

From: North Carolina or Kentucky. Take your pick
Do you have fault codes?
All other things being correct, check the two wire connector wires for continunity. One, the control or grounding wire goes to PCM. The other or power wire either goes to PCM for power or a relay in relay bank. It should have at least 12 v on with engine running and also power a small test light. High resistance will not show up with no current flow remember.
If both conditions are O"K and no fault codes for other issues then perhaps PCM has bit the dust.
