Changing Fuel Filter

Will be changing fuel filter for first time this weekend. Before draining, do I need to extend the drain hose that fuel does not spill all over driveway? Also, bought a Purolator fuel filter - are these OK? Can anyone go over the fuel filter change procedure? I've done it plenty on my 6.5TD & PowerStrokes, but never on a Cummins!

You don't need to extend the drain hose. Just make sure you drain it into a bucket or bottle. I used an old 2 liter soda bottle which I think worked quite well.

Mark, do a search, the procedure has been spelled out many times on this forum. It's very easy and you will just need a bottle like capnp72 said, and a big socket that fits the cannister.

Since no one addressed the other part of the question... I think most people here run only Fleetguard.

I don't know anything about how good Purolator may be, though, which I guess is why I stick with Fleetguard.

Anyway, change procedure is simple. Several threads on it.

It a 10 minute job. Filters are a preference. I use fleetguard. Follow the procedure you find in your search of the web page and your golden.

It is simple. Can you believe when I first got my truck, I checked my local dealer to see what they charge to change a fuel filter and they want $130!!
