Changing Filter and Separator on an Airdog FP100

I'm going to be changing both the fuel filter and the water separator on my FP100 soon. I notice that when draining the separator it will keep draining until I turn the cap closed again (it doesn't seem to 'empty'). So my question is... Am I going to turn my garage into a hazmat site when I try to replace both items - i.e. will fuel flow out of both locations freely until I can get the new items screwed in place?

I tried calling Airdog about it, but, sorry to say, my experience with them returning calls has been less than stellar. Don't get me wrong - I like the product, just not the support...

Thanks -

When I changed the filter, I got about a pint of diesel that drained into a bucket before it stopped. Haven't done the separator yet but can't imagine it would be any different.

I've never let them drain. Put on a pair of rubber gloves. Spin off the old filter and spin on the new ones. Just make sure you have a drain pan to catch the fuel.

mine does the same thing even thought its a AD165. I put a vicegrips on the in line to keep the drain low. Take off the separator with a oil pan below, using the fuel dripage, I refill the separator screw back on. Then I do the filter. There is a little dripage from the filter, but not a constant drain.

A stupid question...

I have an Airdog coming this weekend; I've looked through the install manual online and it recommends capping/plugging the stock canister/pump at the intak/outtake ports? Huh? Are they saying to remove the canister/pump? Or the hose hookups on the canister/pump? What about the stock hoses that go to them? The AD will connect to the CP3 by way of a banjoe bolt. Or am I missing something?
