Changing Anti Freeze

I did a search and could not find a couple answers on recommendations for replacing antifreeze. Maybe one of you guys that knows what you are doing could help.

1) At what point should it be done? Mine is an 03' with 65,000.

2) Do you recommend removing the thermostat, flushing the system, then put in new thermostat before refilling with new antifreeze and distilled water?

3) Is a good commercial flush even recommended?

4) What brand and type of commercial (not dealer stuff) antifreeze is recommended that will not void warranty?

Thanks,
Bob

When I read my '03 manual, it said to change it out at 100k, so I did.

Nope.

If you wait to change it out till when it calls for it, there won't be a warranty issue. What do you have against "dealer stuff", it got you this far. You probably spent a lot in the CTD's purchase, what's another $100 for piece of mind, knowing you have the right stuff in there? I can understand not going with the "dealer stuff" when you change out your lift pump, but coolant?

Walmart sells a perfectly good ethylene glycol anti freeze at a reasonable price. They also sell distilled water for about $.60/gal.

I just rolled over 100K in my truck. I drained, replaced thermostat, and refilled with Zerex-G05 and distilled water.

I use the Zerex G-05 and distilled water too. Something our N. Texas DTR guys started doing (right or wrong, but seems good to me) is draining and refilling our radiators every so often. In my case I drain and refill every 20k miles now when I do a host of other maintenance items...diffs, trans, etc. I don't flush. To drain and refill it won't get all of the old stuff out, but imo it gets enough out and replaces enough of it to keep it new like with fresh additives in it. I figure over time....say 60k miles, it will be mostly new stuff in it.
