What kind of Anti-Freeze?

What kind of after market anti-freeze can aguy use?
I have heard that you can't use (dex-cool) Do you have to buy the Dodge pink from them?
I have heard if you mix dex-cool with the green stuff it turns to jell-o.

I just went to NAPA and bought there heavy duty anti-freeze. Make sure it is a low silicate formulation. But if you mix ethylene glycol with P***** (can't remember the spelling on that) glycol it will turn to jell-o.

Re:What kind of Anti-Freeze?

??? I have seen what can happen to a diesel engine if you dont use the proper antifreeze. Cavitation can pit its way through the cylinder liners in less then 30000 miles. I was told by my Cummins service manager that my 12 valve 5.9 does not have liners but cavation can also pit through cast iron. Dont fool around . Fully formulated
anti freeze is the way to go. Fleetguard or rotella ect. The extended life is only good for two years then sca's have to be added. [sca] supplemental coolant additives protect against cavation. Test strips are available from cummins. Some will say it is not necessary to use fully formulated on your dodge cummins I say why chance it. Just search cavitation you will get quite an education.

Re:What kind of Anti-Freeze?

Easiest way to avoid any possible problems is go with Fleetguard.
Made by Cummins for the Cummins.

No questions, no worries.

Available over the counter at any Cummins distributor, or by mail order.
www.cummins.com or www.fleetguard.com

You may want to pay closer attention to the anti-freeze that's in there, because the manual for mine has you use the pink stuff and not the green crap. Also if I remember correctly it's good for 5 years/100000 mile HOAT formula. ;D

That's correct. I've done some searching on the web and so far i've only found one good replacement that meets the requirements in the owner's manual. It is Zerex G-05 which is made by Valvoline. Here is a link to thier website.
