changed shift pattern on 6spds

Was looking at an 05 today for purchase and noticed that the reverse was moved to the bottom left and their was an L where first would like the old 4 spds with the low. the truck had a 3:73 rear. service said they changed it but really didn't know why. just curious about it

Did older 6 speed's have this pattern or what? My 6 speed T/A is the same as my nv5600. What would be the reasoning?

reasoning is so that when maneuvering the truck in tight spots, 1st and reverse are right next to eachother...

silly germans... shoulda been focused on strength vs. convenience!

Or backing a big 5er into a tight campsite.

Good reply's guys, I don't thing my 6sd T/A would benefit but I'd take one for my truck. I'll take one G56, a set of twins and and a half dozen lift pumps to go please, and keep the change.

Just watch that you don't shift G56 into reverse instead of 2nd when launching. The guy behind you might not like your exhaust pipe pointing at this windshield.

I guess with the NV you also have to watch out that you don't shift into reverse when trying to grab 5th. I haven't ever done it but I guess anythings possible.

i just took delivery of my truck thursday, and it has the new setup. it would be really tough to shift into reverse at a light, since it takes some effort to get it into reverse. just my .02.

most trannies that have patterns like that require that you push down on the shifter to get into reverse... you gotta want to be in reverse, it's not going to just slip in there.

No different than the old 6 gears 4th to 5th throw. It ain't goin' into reverse while rollin' unless you jam it in there. Besides who starts out in 1st anyway unless loaded. They should have put it left of 1st like the Fords.

Until about 3 years ago, I never had that other lever on the floor.... It is really amazing where you can go in granny gear with a real posi and 2 ricks of wood on a truck.

Last year, the dealer sent me home with a 6 speed to try on for size. When my wife drove it, she missed fifth a once or twice and ground the gears when she hit reverse. Needless to say, after that experience our truck has the 48RE.
