Carrier Bearing How too?!

So its time to replace my carrier bearing on my 03.

wondering if its like my 2nd gen where i have to pull the shaft, take it to a machine shop and have the old one pressed off and the new one pressed on, or if i can do this all in the driveway?!?!

Any input would be great.

Thanks folks

Shop is the best way. Why are you replacing it ? Driveline shudder ? If so, it's the u-joints, I made same mistake.

MAN i sure wish i woulda gotten THIS reply sooner!!!

I pulled the driveline off, dropped it off at the shop. They couldnt do it till morning. Got it back, started putting it all back together and found the center u joint frozen

With no more time to take care of that too.......it'll have to wait till next weekend. But your RIGHT! The vibration in second is still there. Oh well. Live any learn.

At least i have my 1/2" shims made for the carrier bearing to put on too to drop the angles a bit.

Thanks for the replys guys.

Wow, so they just tossed the new carrier bearing on it, even though surely they noticed the damaged u-joint?

On their defence, i had split the driveline myself and only gave them the front half with the carrier bearing. i had the rear with the bad u joint.

Although, i should have noticed the u joint, the carrier bearing needed replaced anyways as all the rubber surrounding it was soft and failing anyways. probably due to the bad u joint .
