tried to retrieve codes using key method. Nothing came up in the odo. screen. The only thing that happened was the check engine light flashed 10 times. Any ideas on whats going on ? check engine light is on.

 

Do it faster. I had trouble until I figured out I was doing it too slow.

Another thing I was doing wrong at first was moving all the way back to the ACC position. It works for me in the on position and then one position rearward - not sure what that one is called. Of course AutoZone and Advanced Auto will read your codes for free.

 

I had the same problem. As Dale said, cycle between the position where the dash lights up and one click back.

Start with key in the off position. Hold one finger on the key release button so you can turn key all the way off. Use the other hand and turn the key all the way forward but dont crank the engine thats to far. Do this 3 times leaving on the 3rd time. You may have to set your park brake some have to some dont. It should pop up the code then ------ done.If done correct.
