Well I have a chance to get a new rear at a really good price locally. The issue is that the rear has 4.10 gears. My truck has 373's. Would I be able to run 373's in the front, and 4.10's in the rear. Would that have any issues at all?

 

I don't think you could use 4wd without breaking stuff.

yea definelty not. you would have the axles fighting each other tryin to do different revolutions. my buddy had this happen on an 04 hemi.. he blew the rear diff and went to an auto wrecker and picked up a used differential that the yard owner insisted had a 3.92 gear ratio.. so we installed it and never used four wheel drive until it came to sell the truck, we quickly found out that it didnt work so well when it was locked in 4x4 the tires were spinning at different speedsl, took the diff cover off.. stamped on the gears was 3:55 lol lesson learned..... hope this helps haha

Can do it, but would need a good stagger in tire size fron to rear.

if you run a tire on the rear that is 4.10/3.73 the diameter of the front tires.

A set of 35 inch tires for the rear and some 32s for the front wouldn't quite work, but would be close though and give that rakish look that's so popular.

BTW, my 1964 Power Wagon came with 4.10s in the rear, and 4.09s in the front. The idea was to put the driveline in slight tension when in 4x4.

 

Do you want 4:10 gears? I'm assuming you do with 37s.

You could always pay to get the front swapped to 4:10

I wouldn't run the 3.73s in front unless you don't need 4wd until you can get them swapped.

4.10s would definitely be nice with 37s

 

That would be the best way to turn a QC into a Megacab.

 

Years of running 4WD, mechanics say that the two axles will compete with each other and eventually burn one of them out if not both. Remember, if you change tires to even things out, better have two spares or you're in competion again with axles. Not a very good idea unless you want to never use the front drive anymore. Then you're back to a 2WD. Seems like a lot of money wasted.

 

If you mean temporary and staying in 2wd only, yes. I'd pull the front drive shaft in the meanwhile as to not accidentally/forgetfully engage 4wd.


If you mean forever and trying to utilize 4wd, no. You will hear bad bad noises. Feel bad bad things. And have bad bad trouble.
