Its called a re-manufactured sticker. It is used where mods were made to substancially raise the load capability of the truck. Like adding another axle to a commercial truck. Most fire trucks have one, most ambulances have one. Dot does not specify who does the work or their qualifactions. They only specify that the sticker must be there and the name of the company doing the work. It can also be lowered in the case of weaker tires or axles. But then, you can always register lower. Common practice on auto haulers is an IRP plate for 54,990 to keep out of the heavy vehicle tax of class 8 trucks. That was offered by the local IRP clerk.

Take note, this does not affect a cdl classifaction, if it had over 26,000 gvwr rating you must have one. Trailers can be lowered though to keep out of cdl, done every day.

What I am getting at is a 2500 with ctd gets the one ton axle just not the springs. If I add bags or the helper can I get reassigned. I don't know why these are even 2500 and not 3500. the prob is where I live people dont use these for work and all the lot's carry are 2500 not 3500. They don't like to order from factory and the deals are on what they have on the lot.

Not sure where you are trying to go. Mine came with the same springs as a 3500, only difference is the dual wheels. But... what are you trying to do? Most that work them hard are using a trailer and now that does not matter as you can get tires that will max the axle for a single wheel truck. With a trailer the GVW does not count, only the not listed GCWR. Unless you plan on putting several thousand pounds in the bed with no trailer there is no problem anyway. While as I wrote above, you can very well get it stickered with a reman sticker, this is not practical or easy. You would be better paying more and getting the heavy rating to start with. But if you are pulling a trailer you are only bound by the axle weight rating and the tires. Generally the 2500 and 3500 have the same factory listing in the drivers manual anyway. Just put 19.5 tires on it and go to work. You can get single tires that will hold about 9000 pounds, way over the axle rating.
