A/C and heater problems.

I have 2 issues with my A/C and heater. The compressor won't stay on on the A/C i have read the stuff about the safty switch and low coolant so that might be the issue, although when i do get it to work it will freeze you out. To get it to work when it stops is i have to turn the A/C botton off then on. The compressor kicks in and it is cold again. If I let of the throttle from a steady speed it stop working until I turn it of and back on. This make me think the control board is flaky in addition to needing recharged. (140K on it)
Now a new issue has cropped up. It will only blow air out the front vents. I needed the defroster this morning on my way out to fish put it on defrost and still blowing out the front vents. Nothing out the defrost vents. Tried the floor and nothing there either. So is my control board bad or do i have the cheap blender door issues as well or the motor that moves that since the truck has no vacume? Just don't want to through a bunch of parts at it when i could throw one to fix it all? Has anyone else had the control board die on them? I lost 2 on a jeep cherokee.

Bad Control Head

Yep mine went bad after a year (15K miles). The A/C will initialy run for the first minute or two then the compressor light and recirc light goes off and then both light flashes and comes on again permanently after about 5 minutes. In addition, you can not change the direction of the vent. Took it to dealer and got it back "can not duplicate problem...A/C working fine". I knew it was the control head but my problem was I had no proof of the malfunction. I had my 13 year old son with a video camera sit in front. As soon as the A/C went off he started filming till it came back on. With proof in hand, I went back to the dealer and told the service manager to replace the control head. It was replaced and problem never came back. It is your control head.

Great

Thanks for the info. The one for jeep was 735 for the part so claimed under warrenty. Wonder how much they will (not having a PG thought) on this one.
Any one know a place other than a dealer for that type of part?
