Buying a used common rail truck.
Buying a used common rail truck.
Are most of the used trucks out there going to need injectors? I looked at a mint 05 with 115k that failed an "injector balance test" by a local reputable shop. He said most all of them likely need injectors unless there is an aftermarket filtration system on them.
I have also heard that the hanging rpms are a sign of failing injectors, is there much truth to this. I seem to remember the cr trucks all hanging to some extent. Thanks for any information.

I've never heard the term "hanging rpms" could you please explain what that means.
My 05 had some injector issues when I bought it 4 years ago but the previous owner apparently ran cooking oil for fuel because it the exhaust system smelled like french fries. I had two injectors replaced and the problem continued. I used one bottle of Diesel Kleen and never had another issue. Great engine.

I believe the extreme rpm hang/slow to drop is caused by bad injectors.
But is somewhat normal in CR trucks to keep u from barking the turbo.
And yes. I'm my experience, CR trucks wil need injectors around 170,000. Seen it at 115,000 and seen it at 200,000 mi.

As a fellow 68 Cuda owner I wanted to reply to your post ... Any common rail, in my limited experience, with 150 - 200k is livin on borrowed time as far as injectors are concerned - I just got through replacing all 6 in mine and I will say that this is definately a job that you can tackle. mine now runs like brand new. I decided with 220k that I was going to rebuild the problem areas and keep driving her because it is the best truck I've ever owned... Money well spent :?)
I'll post some pics of my Cuda soon, hopefully you do the same :?)
