a bunch of questions

I have searched and read a lot of stuff. But am having problems processing it all. Can you guys help me out?

I have an 04 (aug 04 to be exact) 6speed 4wd with 135k on it. I pull a 7000lb (empty) horsetrailer a lot through the hills.

Is it a nv5600 or nv4500 transmission?

I want to change the transmission oil in it, should I flush the system, or just drain it, and refill with xquarts of amsoil? And which one should I buy?

When I change the engine oil, is a fleetguard venturi bypass system the way to go, with amsoil 15-40? It should take 3 gallons, with the oil filter filled, correct?

Fuel filter, what brand should I use and is it hard to change myself (I am mechanically retarded)?

The rear diff has been done recently.

The transfer case probably needs to be changed, which oil do you guys recommend?

Anything else you would suggest?

Thanks in advance.

You have the NV5600. It takes the Syncromesh type fluid from Amsoil. No need to flush trans, drain and refill. Your truck takes 3 gallons of oil stock so it would be 3 gallons + whatever the bypass system requires. Fuel filter needs to be 7 microns or less. The best drop in filter out there is the Baldwin PF7977 at 5 microns. Easy to change. DO a search on here for how to do it. Transfer case will take ATF +4. Hope that helps!

Yes, that helps a lot. Thank you. I will look into the bypass and see if its gonna be a pain or not. Will start buying all this as soon as possible

If you don't have an owner's manual, you can download one here for free!

I can save you some money and cut through some hype...

Use a good dino oil in the engine and the best filter is the Fleetguard LF16035. The filter will cost you about $9 - $11.

I just read the latest filter report in the TDR and the Fleetguard Venturi is a good filter, but look at the cost! The recommendation is to use the LF16035 and change the oil at recommended intervals.
