Bud's New 06 Mega

Since I'm not a 3rd gen guy and don't keep up with them, please help me save a lot of time searching.

My friend just bought a new 06 Mega a couple of days ago and I would like to help him head off any little problems before they arise. Does anyone have a list of TSB's and "what to check" items that I could pass on to him?

Also, he has an 04.5 (I think) and while he was at the dealer, he asked them to do a tranny service. They told him they would prefer not to replace the fluid because the seals would leak if they did. HUH? Don't change the fluid because the dealer said not too? Any info on this? This is a plumbing company truck and tows some pretty heavy equipment.

Thanks in advance..............

Charlie,

Here is a TSB listing for all model years. Remember that these apply to all Dodge products and not just Cummins powered Rams. You can click on 06 for specific TSBs for 06 trucks and so on.

If he is doing alot of towing, he should drop the tranny pan and replace the trans filter.........then replace the pan and refill. For heavy use he probably should do this every 15K or so. It wouldn't hurt to add a Mag-Hytec or PML deep transmission pan if he can spare the money. The MH adds an extra 4 quarts over stock to help with cooling.

If you have any specific questions about transmission service, you might give James Northum a call. I can give you the number if you don't already have it.

He knows them inside out and like the back of his hand.

He is Rowlands tranny man....and hopefully someday mine. Hey, you don't have a few thousand dollars laying around you don't need do ya??

Robert,

Thanks, this is just the info I was looking for.

Yea, the tranny fluid thing sounded a little strange to me. I told him he needs to go to, or at least call, another dealer.

I already told him that if he needs to beef the tranny up any that I knew the guy to send him to.

How many miles does he have on the auto? Some shops won't service any auto with excessive mileage on the fluid. If the tranny goes south within a short time they'll get the bill. I think the concern is loosening the dirt that's built up and will become dislodged with the new fluid.

I don't know about the milage, but I know it has been serviced before, per schedule. He's pretty good about the service schedule.
