Brake Job
Brake Job
'05 3/4ton 4X4. I've got to tackle a front brake job this weekend. It's been awhile since I've done one. My dealer tells me my truck should have the rotors turned on the vehicle. Is this really neccesary, or can I just run them into a parts store? I haven't found much on here about it, but one thread says the hubs float, and come right off. Any help is greatly appreciated!

I'm going to do mine too. The front caliper has two bolts holding it on and they are very tight. Just loosen the lower one and remove the upper one. Then you can swing the caliper away and set the new pads in. I decided to not turn the rotors. It might be better to turn them but they are not scored so I'll do this first pad change without turning. One of these days the Dynatrac setup will go on and then the whole thing will be apart. I'll turn them then if needed.

It is very easy. Yes, you should turn the rotors. It does not take anything to get them off. I did mine about 2 weeks ago. It took me about 25 min per side. Thats with air tools and just replacing the rotors and pads.
My rotors are pretty worn on my '05, not sure why it only has 42k miles on it, but I got some replacement rotors at Napa for $52/ea(friend is the manager, decent discount) but they arent THAT much more reg price...
Ill be tackling it when the weather improves in the next few weeks...
Napa has better quality rotors than the chinese Autozone brand, for anyone that cares...Differenet thicknesses and quality...
