block heater location

Hey guys I just bought a 2004 3/4 ton and I can't seem to find the block heater plug. Any advice where it could be if it is equipped with one? I don't know if it has ever been used so it might still e tied up from the factory. Thanks for the help.

it was a 10.00 option on my 04.5. if your truck came with one it should be accessible right behind the front bumper on the passenger side. if not, buy one from the cummins dealer and not from d/c-much cheaper at cummins!

The engine block's the same, and the block heater plug, cord, etc. are in the same place on SO or HO. (Or- do you mean "what's the difference" between so and ho?)

Almost all of the CTDs come from Cummins with a block heater. It is on the passenger side of the block just behind the oil filter housing. If there is no cord you'll need to buy one. Dodge doesn't put a cord on it unless you bought the heater option. The cord just cost me 40 bucks from the dealer.

Unfortunately, the block heater cord is considered an option. Since you just picked it up, I would go back to the dealer and "whine". The cord from the dealer is over $50, but I have read that they can be purchased from Cummins & NAPA for quite a bit less. Go after the dealership, afterall you gave them a lot of cash.

Does someone have a picture of this thing so I know what to look for when I check my truck? My first Diesel Ram - no plug up front that I can find, would be nice to use the block heater if there is one!

Go to a Cummins shop and get the cord for $10. Stop paying for the dealer's retirement.

All motors come with the heater installed. The cord is the $10. dollar option if purchased when the truck is ordered. Otherwise its $40. after the fact. The plug is located just behind the oil filter. The filter obscures the view. You have to crawl underneeth or remove the filter to see it clearly. It protrudes from the block about 3/4 of an inch and should have a threaded on plastic cap. Mine was red. There are two posts sticking out that you need to be careful of when installing the cord. Make sure you line up the holes in the cord with the post on the heater. Put a little dialectric grease on the connection and slide it together. Route your cord safely to somewhere convienient and tie wrap it. The engine wont get warm from the heater but it will keep the frost off and when you start it up in sub 30 degree temperature it wont sound like its full of marbles. I got my cord from Cummins NorthEast in Syracuse NY. for about $12. bucks. I have the exact part number at work if you need it. My truck is also an 04. so the number will be the same.

Thanks for all the help guys. I'm glad you told me I can get it cheaper from cummins than a dodge dealership. I should be able to get it from here. this 04 is a very big jump from my 93 1 ton cummins. I'm gunna miss driving around that big beast and the sound from the 5" straight pipe but I'm sure I can personize this one to my liking as well.
