block heater???

Well, it doesn't get that cold here in North Texas very often. I have not had any problem with my truck starting when it gets down in the 20F to 30F temp. It does take a while for my truck to get to operating temp though. I hooked my block heater up tonight for the first time. What can I expect in the morning? Is this going to improve warm up or only help in starting in cold weather? Just kinda wondering how much improvement I will see at cold startup in the morning... Thanks in advance...

You should see a marked improvement in both startup and the amount of time it takes to warm up your engine! It makes a big difference!

Used mine for the first time it was 26 this morning. I had my timer set to come on 3 hours before I left for work. Turned the key on, no "wait to start" symbol....Awesome...started right up(which it always does)and had warm air out the vent right away. Still took about 8 miles to get up to full temp.

It was 9 degrees outside this morning. I use a remote start and let it idle while I get ready to leave 2-5 minutes and the engine temp was 108 degrees when I got in to leave.

Where is the block heater plug on an '06? I've poked around under the hood and can't seem to find it.

The cord for the block heater is a $20 option. If you don't find it on your window sticker, then you don't have a cord. You do have the actual block heater. Cummins puts 'em in all the engines. If you've got the cord it will be behind the passenger side headlight. If you don't, go to any Cummins/Fleetguard dealer to buy one. DON'T go to the dealer. They get about $40 for 'em. Fleeguard will charge less than half that. I've also seen posts that NAPA stores sell 'em.

This will give you the exact location. Just beside and to the rear of the oil filter... Post # 6.

My dealer told me it was $45 and that I might have to do a computer download to let it work properly at my expense????? Does that make any sense to yall?

The block heater has nothing to do with the ecm. it is direct current plug that warms the block.

dodge4x4, Do Not, I repeat DO NOT go back to that dealer, they obviously have no clue what they are talking about. Buy the cord from Geno's or Cummins dealer, take 5 minutes out of your day to plug it in behind the oil filter....Done.

Yall are right! The truck starts very easy and seems to be somewhat warm when you start it. It was about 23F yesterday morning when I cranked her up. Seemed to be blowing semi warm air right after startup. Great feature when it ets that cold. I probably only see 10 to 14 days a year that it helps but it is nice when you need it.
