Normal, don't sweat it for a second. The black is asphaltene caused by the heating and cooling of the fuel by the cp3, (high pressure injection pump).

Thank you all for the great answers to my question, I think I owe the priveus owner an apologia. I can see now that I am going to be installing a 2nd. Filter inline! This is an assume forum.
