Biggest size tire on a 2005 3500 without spacers?

Okay so I have 22.5" Alcoas on big red and thinking of going back down to the 17" factory wheel but with a bigger tire. I haven't done a 2" level yet but do have a Rancho kit if I so chose to install who knows. I don't want to add the 2" and look stupid towing with the rake. I only tow with the truck. It never leaves my property without a trailer or camper hooked to it. Nothing over 12k but it's worth mentioning. So with a factory suspension and no spacers what's the biggest size tire for my dually without rubbing towing? Thanks as always for any and all helpful advice and success stories and horror stories.

It's my pot and I'll stir it if I want to. If you're not careful, I'll stir your's as well!

I am guessing that your truck is not really much different to mine in spite of it being much newer. I have used 315's on my truck for years with no problem. They did tend to rub just a bit at full lock, but I added 1/16" spacers on to the steering locks and that resolved the problem. Towed a 12,000 lb 5th wheel with no problems either. The RPM's are low at cruise.

Mine is a SRW, but no real issues when towing. Yes, I know towing 12,000 lbs is kinda pushing things for a SRW but no issues. The only minor problem I ever experienced was towing in heavy crosswinds and that produced a small amount of sway even with tires pumped to max pressure. Just slowed down and all the swaying vanished.

The factory wheel for a 2005 Dodge dually is 17x6 and the factory tire size is 235/80R17.
The really narrow 6inch factory wheel limits what size tire you can install on it.

There are several load range E truck tires available in LT255/80R17E that will fit on the factory 17x6 wheel and not rub in the front, nor rub together in the rear.
This tire is about 1inch larger in diameter and wider for a better look than the skinny stock tires.

Many guys have installed larger tires on the factory wheel but that is wrong way to go, especially for a truck that tows a lot.

Thanks Stealth. So in your opinion a 255/80 is the largest option without any issues? Anyone on here running them that could send me a pic so I could compare? Thank you

Okay so I have another question. I am a stickler for BFG all terrains and they don't make it in a 255 80R17 but they do make it in a 34 x 10.50 17. I know it's a bit taller and wider. Has anyone on here ever ran a 34 x 10.50 17 on their 3rd gen that could chime in and tell if they had front end clearance issues or rear dual wheel tire rubbing issues while towing? Thank you
